15-year-old deante smith is his nephew. >> it's hard for me, my professional experience having dealt with. it's a world of difference having dealt with it. each day i have to remind myself. >> reporter: more than a week after the murder police have not arrest lad suspect in the case. -- arrested a suspect in the case. they know that deante had been at the celebration before the death. that's where a disagreement over a girl may have pitted the young man against the other, which led to the deadly confrontation. >> the murder was several blocks away, but prior to them finding their way over there to that mcdonald's and that establishment, there were some words exchanged. >> now the family of the patterson student must remain hopeful that someone will see the images from deante attack

rane. stephen rane was shot by his roommate dayvon green. baltimore city police say it was their officer, william scott kern who pulled the trigger of his real firearm that critically wounded a trainee. crn is an 18 -- kern is an 18-year veteran. he was assigned to the training session. kern was working with about 50 trainees that day but used his real firearm, pulled a trigger and but the a trainee right in the head, commissioner anthony batts also called for an audit of all training practices. that audit started in earnest this morning at police headquarters. >> this happened at the rosewood

center. >> we turn to abc2's roosevelt leftwich with more. >> reporter: if you look at the old rosewood center, you might see little use in the oldie lap dated buildings. this is probably one of the perfect places. when the site was closed in july of 2009, more than 40 abandoned buildings were left on the site. now this is the perfect place are in police to use as they figure out different training scenarios. many different departments have used the old site including the baltimore county police. county police spokeswoman said county officers have done training at the site but most of the time they use the aberdeen proving ground, but they do not use any live fire training outside of their gun range and use simulated watches everywhere

else. every training session has a commander to supervise. why use rosewood in the first place? he said when you think about it there are very few isolated places where police can do such training. now to an update to the breaking news we followed all morning. 60 crashes in two hours. they happened between 6:00 and 8:00 and icy conditions contributed to some of them. one of the crashes killed one person. an 18-year-old woman was thrown from her car when she lost control running into a cement truck. all right. let's go outside. it's dry right now but more rain and snow showers could be hiding our way. >> let's check in with meteorologist wyatt everhart. it can't be as bad as today i hope. >> it was slick this morning. why want to dash anyone's valentine's day plans.

it's tomorrow night into saturday night. this could bring another wintry variety. we're clear. we're dry. temperatures comfortable, in the low 40s. you don't have to bundle up too terribly much. we're watching the tennessee valley for an area of low pressure to develop. it's going to converge on the state as we go into saturday morning. we'll have much more on that straight ahead. >> all right. thanks a lot. now to the breaking news that we first broke on abc2news.com. a mother and her two children are recovering in the hospital after an apartment fire. jamie costello has more. >> the 26-year-old mother and her sons ages two and four, are seriously burned. the fire started on the second flair of the two-story apartment just around 10:00 this morning.

sunset getting later and later. show you some of the weather through the day, sunny skies over mt. airy, so melting off that inch or so wet snow. had it watch for slick spots around manchester. look at the snow. it just melts away. in towson here's what most of us saw, just blazing sunshine, mild temperatures, maybe crack the windows with the bright sunshine coming in the car. light winds, light and variable. in wind, looking good. temperatures fairly pleasant for a february evening. this is good looking valentine's weather to take out the swot heart. no excuses. none of that. the weather is not getting you off the hook tonight. a clipper over the great lakes. that won't impact pus. we're looking fine. however, as we go beyond

tomorrow we ramp up low pressure over the tennessee valley, bring up coastal energy. these two areas are converging. it depends on how well they ramp up, if it's mostly offshore we won't get much. if it hugs the coastline we'll get more wraparound snow. for the moment the only snow on board is in the great lakes. here's the clipper pinwheeling across the area. maybe harrisburg will pick up a few showers. as we go into early saturday morning watching the two possible scenarios, it strengthens late. we won't get much at all from that scenario. the second scenario would bring this as a tighter storm. a couple inches of wet snow possible. remember, the air temps will be warm so will the ground tempts.

tonight 30. tomorrow 52, some sun early and clouds techen. by tomorrow night late we could see mixed showers and some snow into early saturday. it will taper off by midday saturday. as we look at the second half of the weekend, dry, clear, but cold and windy. we're not exactly sure how the saturday morning scenario plays out. we know one thing. this will be cold and blustery. you'll have to cuddle with your sweetie. after you lay the foundation, you cuddle. >> we got a couple that's been married 60 years. peggy and larry richardson, we want to give you a shoutout. got married young. nothing says valentine's day like a wedding.
